Day 1 - Saturday, August 30th - Phx to Las Cruces, NM

First, a HUGE Thank You to Aunt Diane for coming over Friday night and playing with Asa and Lexi while Mommy and Daddy finished packing for our big trip! You will never know how greatly we appreciated it! Auntie even got the privilege of putting sweet Lexi to sleep!

We left Phx about 6am. A little later than we had planned, but no big deal. We are on vacation after all, right? Around 9:30 we stopped at McDonalds in Benson, Az for some breakfast. Outside the McDonalds is a HUGE dinosaur and Asa was squealing with delight and wanted to go see this dinosaur so bad!!

Of course, that was until he got up close to it and decided that it was much bigger and scarier looking up close than it was far away. He pretty much didn't want to have anything to do it with it after that. Still got the picture though!

Who says the desert isn't green? This was taken just East of Benson, Az. Isn't it beautiful?

Rain in the forecast? Nope. Just really threatening clouds. This was just East of Wilcox, Az. We did however finally hit rain when we literally crossed the Continental Divide sign in NM. Hurricane Gustav is now a Cat 4. We still are going by Plan A which will take us I10 all the way to Florida.

Made it Las Cruces around 2pm. Went to Cracker Barrel. Asa loved hitting each of the rocking chairs in front and watching them rock. He did this over and over again until we finally drug him away. During our meal, Mommy was busy with Lexi and Daddy was eating and apparently we weren't watching Asa closely enough, because suddenly he got really red in the face and started crying. Turns out he squirted pepper juice into his eye! Poor thing, but Daddy took him to the restroom and washed his eye out and he was fine after that. He remembered it though and mentioned it a few more times on our trip. Hopefully he won't be doing that again!

So... very... tired!! Time to hit the hay and prepare for another long traveling day tomorrow!
